BLUES CALENDAR (2010) & CD 1920s Paramount Race Records artwork PATTON Ma Rainey
2010 Blues Images calendar and CD (Vol. 7) produced by John Tefteller. LP-sized calendar includes artwork based on original Paramount Records advertisements for Charley Patton, Blind Blake, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Mississippi Sheiks, Skip James, Ma Rainey, Ida Cox, Charley Turner, Papa Charlie Jackson, The Black Billy Sunday, and Ramblin’ Thomas, plus a Brunswick ad for Robert Wilkins’ “That’s No Way to Get Along.”. These images are of higher quality than ads and photos that are reproduced from newspaper microfilm.
The calendar comes with a CD that includes tracks by all of the above artists plus Frank Palmes, Irene Scruggs with Blind Blake, and Henry Townsend, including some previously unissued takes. While most tracks have been reissued on other CDs, the versions here bear the credit: "Newly remastered from the BEST or ONLY surviving copies!" Remastering is by Richard Nevins.
CDs in the Blues Images series are available from my eBay store, Bluesoterica.com Mail Order. Also see my article in Living Blues #248 about the discovery of the Paramount artwork used in this series.
