    Description

This new, corded petticoat was made from tightly woven, textured 100% cotton. The  corded petticoat is styled with three rounds of 100% cotton cording.  There is a row of cotton lace above the top round of cording. The stu
rdy self-fabric drawstring waist makes it very adaptable garment. The  drawstring waist extends to 56" when fully expanded and narrows down to fit a 20" waist.   The petticoat is made in panels and pie-shaped wedges have been taken out of the waist so  that the amount of fabric gathered at the waist is lessened,
    making
for a smoother waistline. The petticoat is 40" long and can easily be shortened by adding a tuck or two above the cording layers. (It should measure about 3" shorter than your dress.) The bottom circumference is 84".  All of the long seams are  completely finished and flat felled.
The corded petticoat is perfect for work dresses, day dresses and any other style of dress with a moderate hemline. For young ladies, corded petticoats continued to be worn well into the 1880's, when the bustle back replaced the wide look. This petticoat is made with  excellent quality cotton fabric with 100% cotton cording, and is machine washable, which makes it ideal for the younger ladies and busy moms.
If you don't want a hoop skirt, but do want the shape of the Era, this petticoat is for you. Prior to the invention of the hoop skirt, corded petticoats were worn with multiple layers of petticoats to provide the silhouette so popular to this Era. Once the hoop skirt arrived, many women omitted the layers of petticoats including the corded petticoat, in favor of the hoop skirt, for their large circumference day dresses and evening wear. Corded petticoats, however continued to be worn with the work dresses and many other styles of dress with narrow hemlines, as they help hold the skirt out and prevent it from becoming entangled in the feet. Easy and comfortable to wear and to sit in, it does not flip up, exposing one's "limbs" like a hoop skirt.
