Gugma is the Hiligaynon word for love. Actually, it is the word for love shared by Cebuanos and Warays too. These three languages fall under a larger group called Visayan. It’s beautiful to think how this one word for love traverses the scattered islands of the Visayas.
This is a set of 3 exquisite face masks handmade with love - a meticulously hand painted piña/jusi, a hablon with intricate embroidery, and a hablon with gold fabric.
Hablon is taken from the Hiligaynon word “habol” which means “to weave”, referring both to the process of weaving and the fabric produced. It is traditionally made of local fibers including piña, abaca, and cotton.
Each face mask is 3 ply, washable, and breathable - painstakingly handwoven by indigenous Panay Bukidnon artisans in Iloilo, Philippines. There is no nose wire but it is beautifully contoured and keeps its shape as pictured, even when not worn.
These are one-of-a-kind, high quality face masks that would make for lovely gifts. Only a few are made as they are very intricate and take time to produce. The textiles used are the same ones utilized during formal occasions in the Philippines such as weddings, Christenings, etc. which make it very suitable to wear during formal events, or wear it anytime to elevate a casual look!
