    Description

Reproduction Civil War Era Medici Belt with one pointed edge and a straight edge it is a rich hunter green shade with a large 100% silk embroidered floral bouquet motif. It can be worn with either edge up.
The oval shaped belt is 38" when buttoned closed. The sides are about 3" wide, the center point is 5" tall.  Be sure to consider the size of your waist with all of your many layers when you determine the size you need. Also remember the placement of the buttons can also be moved for a better fit.
The belt is made of  hunter green 100% silk with a woven floral brocade pattern. It is lined with 100% cotton velveteen in hunter green. It is decorated with 100% silk, hand made embroidered silk ribbon bouquet of pink, cream, pale blue and light green flowers and leaves. It closes at the back with two antiqued gold colored metal buttons with a raised design of swirling flourishes. The belt is fully lined  with 100% cotton velveteen in a matching hunter green. It would be a simple matter to turn the belt and covering the closure by pinning on a large ribbon bow to give it a  totally different look.
    Dry clean only.
"Civil War era women and teen girls wore belts over their bodices and skirts to help emphasize the waistline.  Belts also helped to hide the join between the bodice and skirt.  Most of the belts were made for show and were meant to be seen.  Ladies made belts out of many different fabrics.  The were made from:  silks, satin, velvet, brocades and tapestry fabrics as well as cottons, linens and wool.  Often the belt was used as a showpiece of the ladies handiwork.  Women would spend hours working up intricate designs in needlework, bead-work or braid work."
