    Description

Reproduction Civil War Era Medici Belt with one pointed edge and a straight edge. It can be worn with either edge up. It buttons at the back with 7/8" textured black buttons.
The belt is 33" when buttoned closed. The sides are about 3" wide, the center point is 4 3/4" tall.  Be sure to consider the size of your waist with all of your many layers when you determine the size you need. Also remember the placement of the buttons can also be moved for a better fit.
The belt is made of textured, bright teal blue silk-look raised brocade fabric with a raised design of tulips and leaves. pattern. It is lined with  black moiré. It closes at the back with two textured black 7/8"  buttons with a raised design of  a flower surrounded with a decorative frame.   It would be a simple matter to change the closure by pinning on a large ribbon bow to give it a  totally different look and could be worn this way with the black "watered silk" out.
    Dry clean only.
"Civil War era women and teen girls wore belts over their bodices and skirts to help emphasize the waistline.  Belts also helped to hide the join between the bodice and skirt.  Most of the belts were made for show and were meant to be seen.  Ladies made belts out of many different fabrics.  The were made from:  silks, satin, velvet, brocades and tapestry fabrics as well as cottons, linens and wool.  Often the belt was used as a showpiece of the ladies handiwork.  Women would spend hours working up intricate designs in needlework, bead-work or braid work."
