"Muddy Waters was born, McKinley Morganfield in Rolling Fork,Mississippi in 1915.
His unique style of blues became known in 1948 with his release his singles,
"I Can't Be Satisfied" and "I Feel Like Going Home." Waters became known for
his dark and majestic voice along with the powerful and urgent sounds he created
with his guitar.
He was a part of the Delta region, whose bluesmen sang about
the rigors of their harsh lives. The music was naked and passionate.
Waters picked up the harmonica when he was thirteen and after four years
he tried his hand at guitar. He learned the 'bottleneck' style of playing,
which complimented his style of singing perfectly. This style slides, dips and slurs.
Waters headed to Chicago to begin his life in the music industry.
Although he was well-known and loved in the Delta, he found his move to be challenging.
He began playing at small taverns and through his determination and talent, he recorded
with Aristocrat(later Chess Records).
Several failed recordings later, he finally hit it big with the single "I Can't Be Satisfied &
I Feel Like Going Home." After this song, he became a forerunner on the path to the now well-known
Chicago blues. He kept with his Mississippi roots but added a harmonica and bass to add to the sound
and create a more modern blues sound. With his new band set, Waters continued to produce one amazing
song after another.
Waters became a blues icon and even with the ever changing styles of music, he's still gaining fans today.
